  • Soap Sets – Heavily Scented Soaps

It’s time for another soap set! This time around I put together a set of heavily scented soaps.

Heavily Scented Soap from The Freckled Farm Soap Company

From Left to Right: Tea Tree, Deep Space, Peppermint Eucalyptus, Deep Sea

Tea Tree Goat Milk Soap – Tea Tree is a love it or hate it scent. I very rarely see any in between. Personally I absolutely love it! It’s such a fresh scent. Our Tea Tree Goat Milk Soap is not a subtle scent. We don’t shy away in our use of this amazing essential oil.

Deep Space Goat Milk Soap – My goodness does this soap come up a lot… and it will continue to pop up in different sets. It’s our top seller and for good reason. The heavy use of lavender and tea tree essential oils give this soap a powerful scent.

Peppermint Eucalyptus Goat Milk Soap – This soap has a crisp fresh scent and it is far from light. This soap will wake you up! It’s my all time favorite scent combination.

Deep Sea Goat Milk Soap – This soap features the scents of eucalyptus, juniper berry, and rosemary. It’s like a day at the spa. It will have no trouble feeling a bathroom with it’s lovely aroma.

  • Westchester Farmers Market

We have loved being a part of the Powhatan Farmers Market the last few years and we are happy to continue to be a part of it through the many changes that it has gone through.

For the first few years that we were involved in the market we were in front of the Tractor Supply in Powhatan. It was a great location and the Powhatan community was very supportive. Unfortunately last year the market lost it’s “lease” at this location and the market managers were forced to find us a new place to hold the market. There were several locations considered and ultimately they settled on Westchester Commons in Midlothian, right outside of Powhatan. While we were sad to longer be in Powhatan this has proven to be a great place to hold the market as well and it’s only a few miles from the Tractor Supply location, so it continues to be convenient for our loyal Powhatan customers.

So here we are in a new year… Our second year at Westchester Commons. There have been a few changes to improve the market even further. The market is no longer called the Powhatan Farmers Market. It is now officially called the Westchester Farmers Market. Instead of setting up in the parking lot in front of the Jo-Ann Fabrics we are now in the grassy area near the Plaza Azteca and the Noodles and Company. This area is a lot more pedestrian friendly and should improve the over all feel of the market. It’s going to be another great year and we hope you come out to see us and all the other awesome vendors!

The market starts on May 3rd!

  • Soap Highlight – Coffee Goat Milk Soap

Our Coffee Goat Milk Soap is such a versatile soap!

Our Coffee Goat Milk Soap is great for cooks, gardeners, mechanics, and so much more. The soap itself doesn’t have a very strong scent (it smells a little like cream with a slight hint of coffee) but it is excellent for neutralizing strong scents. It helps remove scents like garlic and onion from your skin, making it an excellent kitchen soap. The coffee grounds act as a heavy exfoliant, for when you need some exfoliation, but it’s also great for removing dirt stains from gardeners hands or grease stains from the skin of people who were working on machinery.

This soap is made with a coffee infused oil that we make, espresso, and fresh coffee grounds. All the coffee we use is rainforest safe!

  • The Goat Milk in Our Goat Milk Soap

The most important ingredient in our soap is obviously the goat milk from our own little dairy goat herd. It’s what makes our soap so special and it comes from the most spoiled goats!

We have a wonderful, symbiotic relationship with the animals on our farm. Our goats give us this amazing, rich, fresh milk for our goat milk soap and we spoil them rotten. Our goats receive organic hay from a farm in Doswell, VA, non-GMO grain from a farm in Staunton, VA, kelp from the Arctic Ocean (because it is said to contain less mercury), black oil sunflower seeds and alfalfa pellets, ample pastures, and a nice solid barn. They get lots of love and attention. We keep our herd as small as possible so we can really monitor their health and so nothing goes unnoticed. We don’t take any chances with their health and consult our outstanding farm vet at the first sign that something might be wrong. We are closed herd, meaning our goats are not exposed to other goats or locations, and when people come to visit us we require they use the shoe wash so no foreign parasites or bacteria is introduced to our herd. We take our jobs as their caretakers very seriously and make sure we give them the best lives possible.

You can feel comfortable using our soap knowing that the animals on our farm are treated with extreme love and care!

  • Going Nose Blind

We recently had a customer ask if we were using less essential oils in his favorite soap variety. This answer is of course no. We haven’t changed our recipe in any way. I tried to figure out why he might not be smelling his soap as strongly as he once did and the most obvious answer, the reason we ourselves can’t smell our soaps as strongly as we once could, for some reason didn’t immediately come to my mind, so I thought it might be a good topic to cover on the blog… Going Nose Blind…

When we are around a particular scent all the time we begin to ignore it. That is why you can’t smell your own house. When guests come over to our home they always comment about how wonderful it smells… probably because some of the soap is stored in the soap office. To us our house smells like an ordinary home that children live in (if you know what I mean). We can’t smell most of our soaps unless they are new or right up against our noses. While you aren’t exposed to our soaps at the same level that we are this can begin to happen to you if you are consistently using the same variety of soap. If you are used to our soap filling your bathroom with a lovely scent then it will likely always fill the room in the same way, but over time you will begin to notice it less and less. Your guest will get to enjoy the robust scent of the soap sitting in your bathroom in the way you used to whether you can smell it or not.

So how do you avoid going nose blind to your favorite scent? Switch up the soaps that you use! We have seventeen different permanent varieties for you to choose from, our seasonal varieties that come out throughout the year, and new varieties that we debut each year. If you are noticing that your favorite variety isn’t smelling as strong as you are used to, switch up the soap that you use for a bar or two and then go back. Your favorite soap will go back to smelling as strong and as lovely as you are used to!

  • Soap Set – For Kids

It’s time for another soap set! This time I put together a goat milk soap set for kids!

From left to right – Castile, Oatmeal Honey, Lavender, Lemongrass Green Tea

Castile Goat Milk Soap – This is our most gentle soap. It’s a very simple recipe that is made up mostly of olive oil and goat milk. It’s a great soap for kid’s sensitive skin

Oatmeal Honey Goat Milk Soap – This is another gentle soap. Our soaps, like most handmade soaps, are free of things like sulfates that can cause irritations, so it’s uncommon that we hear about individuals having negative skin reactions. I find that if people are going to have a reaction to handmade soap it’s because of the essential oil. This soap is free of essential oils. It’s made simply with gentle ingredients, including of course oatmeal and honey.

Lavender Goat Milk Soap – Lavender is a wonderful calming and relaxing scent… What kid doesn’t need that? Especially before bed time!

Lemongrass Green Tea Goat Milk Soap – Lemongrass is said to help repel bugs so this is a great summer time soap for the kids.

  • Soap Highlight – Cleopatra Goat Milk Soap

If you are a fan of earthy, spicy scents then our Cleopatra Goat Milk Soap might be the soap for you!

Cleopatra is one of my favorite soaps that we make. It is scented with frankincense and myrrh essential oils, which gives it this wonderfully warm, almost spicy, aroma. It was not a scent combination that I expected to enjoy so much but after that first batch it quickly became one of my go to soaps!

This fabulous soap received it’s name because of Cleopatra’s famed use of goat milk and frankincense in her beauty regiment.
