  • Soap Sets – Gifts

Because it’s not often that you know other people’s scent preferences customers often ask me to help them pick out soaps that they can give as a gift. I find that it is best to stick with our most popular soaps or the more neutral scents when giving something like soap as a gift, so the four soaps listed below are the ones I tend to suggest.

From left to right – Peppermint Eucalyptus, Lemongrass Green Tea, Lavender, Oatmeal Honey.

Peppermint Eucalyptus Goat Milk Soap – Although this is a strong scent it is one that tends to please most customers. After our Deep Space Goat Milk soap this is our next top seller. I have met very few people who don’t love this soap. It has a crisp, clean scent that leaves you feeling refreshed

Lemongrass Green Tea Goat Milk Soap – This soap has a wonderful mild earthy scent. It’s not too feminine or masculine. It’s wonderfully neutral.

Lavender Goat Milk SoapMost people love lavender, and those who don’t love it at least enjoy soap scented with it. It’s a real crowd pleaser.

Oatmeal Honey Goat Milk Soap – Our Oatmeal Honey is sensitive and scent free. It has a wonderful soft lather and a mild exfoliant due to the ground oatmeal. With this soap you don’t have to worry about the scent at all, just the quality of the soap.

  • Making Bits and Pieces

Once a month or so I sit down and spend a day assembling our Bits and Pieces. Bits and Pieces are one pound grab bags of our goat milk soap.

Sometimes during the soap making process soaps get damaged. They get air bubbles, or dents. Sometimes they don’t make the weight that is stated on our package or we have leftover end pieces from cutting the bars from the loafs. All of these “less than perfect” soaps go into our Bits and Pieces in order to prevent waste. They are still great soaps. They just don’t meet the extremely high standards that we require of the soap that we sell as bars. We always try to include at least one full bar of soap and at least two scents. It’s a wonderful way to try different soaps at a discounted price!

  • Soap Highlight – Deep Sea Goat Milk Soap

Have you tried our Deep Sea Goat Milk soap? It is a wonderful deep cleanser that offers a great, spa-like, experience.

Scented with eucalyptus, juniper berry, and rosemary essential oils, it has a wonderful aroma that will remind you of a day at the spa. This awesome soap features three natural powders that aid in the cleansing process; kelp, spiralina, and orange peel powder. It’s a wonderful experience overall and a great way to pamper yourself!

  • Topped or Not Topped… That is the question!

When we first got into the soap making business we had three soaps that included a decorative topping. The vast majority of our customers adored these embellishments but there were a few that didn’t like that they came off over the course of several uses, so we started to offer a topped and a not topped option for each. Today we only make two soaps with this option.

Our Lavender Goat Milk Soap is topped with beautiful blue/purple lavender buds. It doesn’t affect the scent of the soap and is purely decorative.

Our Oatmeal Honey Goat Milk Soap is topped with oats but again this is just a decoration. Topped or not topped our Oatmeal Honey has ground oatmeal throughout, making it a light exfoliant.

Which choice is best for you? When customers ask me which they should pick I always tell them… If you plan to put the soap on display at the sink or if the topping just makes you happy then go with the topped option. If you don’t care either way, or plan to use the soap in the bath (which means the little lavender buds or oats will be floating around you) then go with the untopped option.

  • Beveling our Goat Milk Soap

At The Freckled Farm Soap Company we hand bevel the edges of each bar of our goat milk soap. We do this because it improves the feel during use and because it gives each bar a cleaner look!

When we first started making goat milk soap we would hand out samples to friends and family to get feedback. Their responses were incredibly helpful and in several cases really shaped the way we do things still to this day. One piece of feedback that we felt was incredibly valuable was that the corners of the soap were a little sharp the first few uses. We definitely agreed, and even though it involved a lot of extra work, we decided to start hand beveling the edges of each bar. That the way the experience using our soap is great from the beginning.

As we started beveling large batches of soap we soon found that it not only improved the feel of the the bar during use but it also improved the overall appearance of each bar. It makes the soap look cleaner and more uniform. Our customer’s experience, the whole experience, is extremely important to us, so we continue to do it to this day, even as our production continues to grow.

We will continue to do whatever can to make sure our customers have a great experience with our soap. We hope you appreciate the love and care that goes into each bar of soap!

  • Soap Sets – Soaps for Men

At The Freckled Farm Soap Company we run a special deal if you purchase four bars of soap together (our 4 for $20 deal). With this deal in mind we thought it would be fun to put together sets of four bars with specific customers or for specific purposes in mind to help customers find the best set for themselves. Over the course of the next year I will periodically post sets of soap that will help you pick the perfect 4 for $20 deal for yourself!

This first set are the bars of soap that our male customers tend to gravitate towards. Obviously not all men are the same and we have male customers who use our entire line of soap, but these four bars are the ones that are most often chosen by men.

Rosewood Salt Goat Milk Soap – This bar of soap is 50% Himalayan pink salt and has a light floral/woody scent. Once wet it has a pumice like texture. This has been our number one seller to our male customers for years.

Irish Goodbye Stout Goat Milk Soap – What man doesn’t want a beer soap? This soap is made with the Irish Goodbye Stout by Final Gravity Brewery in Richmond, VA, and malted barley grown and malted by Woods Mill Malt House in Nelson County, VA.

Virginia Cedar Goat Milk Soap – Not only does this soap have an excellent woody scent but it also makes a fantastic shave bar. It has the same thick, lotion like lather as the Castile Goat Milk Soap giving you a nice smooth shave.

Deep Space Goat Milk Soap – This is an overall top seller. Everybody seems to love this black bar of soap. Women love it because it’s such a great soap for your face. Men seem to love it because it’s black.

  • Our Goat Milk Soap Laundry Detergent

Our Goat Milk Soap Laundry Detergent is really special. Before we started making it we were always searching for a detergent that wouldn’t cause our daughter (who was a toddler at the time) to break out in hives. Her skin was incredibly sensitive and it seemed like any contact with clothing washed in detergent that wasn’t free and clear would make her skin develop these horrible red splotches. We decided we wanted to make something that would be sensitive enough of her to use and that wouldn’t put nasty chemicals into our water system.

So we developed this simple, yet incredibly powerful, detergent. It gets out the tough stains left behind from our farm, like red clay, without irritating our daughter’s sensitive skin, and is nearly suds-free, making it better for your machine and our water system. It’s made with our Castile Goat Milk Soap, borax, and washing soda. You only use a tablespoon… that’s right a tablespoon!

You can start by purchasing one of our adorable refillable glass jars ($20 each). Which comes with a cute wooden scoop (pictured above). Once you have used the detergent in the jar you can refill it with our laundry refills. The refills are only $8 each which means the loads only costs about 14 cents each!

Do you want to try out our laundry detergent? You can find it here!

  • Where to find us this Winter!

It’s easy to fall into the winter blues when it seems like not a lot is happening on the weekends. You are stuck inside all week. That’s not how you want to spend your weekends too! During the rest of the year its so nice to start your weekend off with a visit to the farmers markets to stock up on all of your needs and maybe pick up a tasty breakfast, but during the winter what is there to do? Guess what… In Virginia there are still awesome farmers markets to visit. Winter markets have increased greatly over the last few years, so now you don’t have to go without! So where can you pick up our goat milk soaps, laundry detergent, and lotions this winter:

South of the James Farmers Market – It’s undeniable… South of the James is one of the top farmers markets in Virginia and it’s year round! We feel beyond grateful to have such a wonderful place to offer our products. We are out at SOJ every single Saturday of the year, unless the governor declares a state of emergency because of hazardous weather. During the summer there are an incredible number of vendors and many of those vendors stay on all year. If you are coming during the winter you will not be disappointed. Everything you need is still there! There is always at least one or two veggie vendors, honey, dog treats, our goat milk soap products, the list goes on and on… and there are always lots of great choices for breakfast.

Visit South of the James Farmers Market – Every Saturday during the winter – 9am-12pm – New Kent Ave & 42nd Street, Richmond, VA 23225

The Winter Farmers Market at IX Park – This is a brand new winter market in Charlottesville. It has a great selection and is both indoors and outdoors. You can find us at one of the outdoor spots on select Saturdays… Which is hopefully most Saturdays through March.
