  • Soap Set – Lightly Scented Soaps

Last time I featured a soap set it was highlighting heavily scented soaps. Today I have put together a set of lightly scented soaps.

Lightly Scented Soaps from The Freckled Farm Soap Company

From Left to Right: Coconut Lime, Coffee, Castile, Oatmeal Honey

Coconut Lime Goat Milk Soap – Our Coconut Lime soap has the subtle scent of lime essential oil. It’s not an overpowering scent. It’s nice, light, and lovely.

Coffee Goat Milk Soap – While this soap has a *lot* of coffee in it, coffee is a scent neutralizer so it neutralizes it’s own scent. It has a light sweet smell but that is it. It has the extra benefit that it helps get rid of scents that you don’t want… like onions or garlic.

Castile Goat Milk Soap – This soap has no added scent. It smells of the oils it is made with and that is all. It’s sensitive and gentle, and if you are someone who doesn’t want a soap that leaves a scent this is the perfect soap for you.

Oatmeal Honey Goat Milk Soap – Like the Castile this soap doesn’t have any added scent. It features the subtle warm aroma of oatmeal but it is not at all overpowering.

  • Best Soap for Sensitive Skin

People with sensitive skin often have a hard time finding soaps that don’t irritate their skin. We know what this feels like first hand. Our daughter Bryce has sensitive skin. If we use the wrong thing on her, her skin will become irritated and break out in hives. We have always been careful with what we put on her and she’s never had an issue with any of our soaps or detergents. While we believe most people with sensitive skin should be fine using all of our soaps, if you have extremely sensitive skin and are looking for soap that is very gentle, the soaps highlighted in this post are for you!

    Castile Goat Milk Soap

Our Castile Goat Milk Soap is the most sensitive soap bar in our line. It’s made with four simple ingredients (raw goat milk, organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, organic sustainable palm oil). It has a soft silky lather and is gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. It can even be used on young children.

    Honey Oatmeal Goat Milk Soap

Our Honey Oatmeal Goat Milk Soap is another one of our sensitive skin bars. In addition to being sensitive this bar also has ground oatmeal throughout making it nice exfoliant.

    Castile Goat Milk Soap

Our Castile Goat Milk Soap is making another appearance in our “Soap Dish” series. In January it was for it’s ability to moisturize during those really dry months. This time it’s because of it’s shave soap abilities. The Castile has a lotion like lather, giving you the perfect slick, smooth surface to shave with, and that moisture stays with you! So now that the shorts are coming out it’s time to bring out the Castile again!

  • Best soaps for people who work with their hands

Are you a chef, gardener, nurse, woodworker, or mechanic? Do you have some other career or hobby that requires you to work with your hands and leaves them dirty, greasy, dry, and/or smelly? Then the following are the soaps that you should be using!

    Coffee Goat Milk Soap

This is the soap for those who work with their hands! Our Coffee Goat Milk Soap is a deodorizer that cleans away grease and dirt with ease! The coffee within the soap acts as a scent neutralizer while the coffee grounds act as a scrubbing agent for dirt and grease. Chefs are able to get rid garlic and onion scents. Gardeners will be able to wash away the deep down, ground in, dirt. Even the stuff that gets trapped in the creases of your hands. Mechanics and woodworkers can scrub away the grease and oils that other soaps just wash right over.

  • Best Soaps for Shaving

Two weeks ago I highlighted the best soap for your feet, since we will soon be experiencing sandal weather. With sandals also comes shorts and skirts, and tights are stored away for when fall returns. If you are like me you get out of the routine of shaving when your bare legs are no longer exposed, so now that the warm weather is returning it’s time to get back into the routine. So which of our goat milk soaps are best for shaving?

    Castile Goat Milk Soap

We highlight this soap often, but it is such a great multi-purpose soap that it lends itself to many different needs. This soap features a wonderful lotion-like lather which gives you a perfect surface for shaving, then that moisture stays with you long after you are done! It leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth.

    Cedar Goat Milk Soap

Our Cedar Goat Milk Soap is made with the same recipe as our Castile, so it too has the perfect lather for shaving. We made it with male shave needs in mind, but it can obviously be used for both men and women. It features the deep woody scent of fresh cut cedar.

  • Best Soap for Men

We continue with our “Best Soap for…” series, this time we are highlighting the best goat milk soaps for Men.

Many men have no issue picking out soaps for themselves from the varieties that we bring to the markets, but occasionally we will get a gentleman who comes up to our booth and asks “Do you have any man soaps.” While we don’t have any soaps that are specifically made for men we do have scents that are more masculine or at least would be appealing to both males and females.

    Cedarwood Goat Milk Soap

Our Cedar Goat Milk Soap is the closest thing we have to a “man soap.” When we discovered what an amazing shave bar our Castile Goat Milk Soap was we decided we needed to make a shave soap that was geared more towards men. The Cedar has a woody scent and the same lotion-like lather of the Castile, making it the perfect bar for shaving your face.

    Rosewood Salt Goat Milk Soap

Our Rosewood Salt soap is one of our top sellers to men… surprisingly. It’s our little pink bar of soap, but men really seem to love it! It too has a woody scent and has the additional benefit of being an exfoliant. Once wet it develops a texture much like a pumice stone. Many of our male customers seem to like the combination of the rough texture and earthy scent.

    Deep Sea Goat Milk Soap

Deep Sea was created to be a deep cleanser/spa bar. It’s one of my favorite bars of soap! We’ve been told by many male customers that it has a scent that they would consider “manly,” although I choose to think of it as more of a unisex scent. This soap includes eucalyptus, rosemary, and juniper berry essential oils. It also has kelp powder, spirulina, and orange peel powder, giving it’s lather a soft silty feel.

Other Soaps Our Male Customers Might Want to Consider:

  • Best Soaps for Children

At nearly every farmer’s market and craft show that we have ever attended we have had someone ask us “What’s the best soap for …”. They want to know what soap is best for their unique situation. So, we have decided to create a series to help you pick the best soaps for your specific needs. What soaps is best for feet, or acne, or what about dry skin. Find the answers to all of these and many, many more over the course of the next year.

We are going to start this series with the “soap need” people are most concerned about… Children. In general children have sensitive skin. Our daughter Bryce’s baby skin was incredibly sensitive. If for some reason her clothes were washed in a detergent that was not “free and clear” her whole body would break out in hives. For the longest time we would only use our Castile soap on her. When she started bathing with her brother she would show interest in using whichever soap variety he was using, so we began to test our other soaps on small areas of her skin. She never had a reaction to any of our soaps and has been able to use our entire soap line without any problems.

Important things to remember: While the majority of our soap line is fine for sensitive skin, all soaps should be tested on a small area of skin before regular use. If your child should react to this soap (or any soap for that matter) you want the reaction to be contained to a small area and not all over the body. Also, our soaps are not tear-fee, no real soap can be tear-free. If you look at those tear-free baby soaps they are made up almost entirely of chemicals, making them soap free, and therefore tear-free. For me personally, I would rather deal with the soap in order to have a more natural option. Be sure to keep our soap out of your and your children’s eyes to avoid irritation.

    Castile Goat Milk Soap

Our Castile is our most sensitive soap. It’s two main ingredients are olive oil and goat milk. It’s very gentle and can be used on even the most sensitive skin. Infants need very little soap, but if you are using one of our soaps on your baby this would be the soap to use.

You can find our Castile Goat Milk Soap HERE

    Oatmeal Honey Goat Milk Soap

Our Oatmeal Honey is another sensitive soap. The oatmeal and honey ingredients are said to calm irritated skin and are gentle on sensitive skin. This soap has ground oatmeal throughout, which acts as a light exfoliant. While this exfoliant is not as strong as others that are specifically designed to be “heavy exfoliants” it still should be used with caution on your youngest children. Any amount of exfoliant could potentially be irritating to very sensitive skin. While, we have never experienced an irritation with our sensitive skin child, it is still good to be on the cautious side.

    Soaps to Avoid with Children

Coffee: Our coffee is a heavy exfoliant which can be very irritating to children’s sensitive skin

Rosewood Salt: Like with our coffee this soap is a heavy exfoliant and can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

  • What’s in Our Soap Dish – January

Your skin’s needs change throughout the year and it may benefit you to use different soap varieties at different points of the year. We are here as soap makers to give you insight into what WE use each month and why! While we often take what we can get and our soap dish is usually filled with flawed soaps (dented, or underweight) that we can’t sell, if we get a choice the following are the soaps we love to use in January:

    Winter Goat Milk Soap

I look forward to us having our Winter Goat Milk Soap in stock all year long. In 2014 we sold out in two weeks and I really didn’t have the opportunity to use it very much. In 2015 we made three times more of it than we had the year before. We released it on December 5th and sold more that day than we had in our whole 2014 stock! Now, a week into the new year, we only have a small supply left. This soap has a warm scent (ginger, cinnamon, clove, and dark molasses) and a beautiful (naturally occurring) red color. The ginger essential oil also gives the soap a slight warming effect during use!

If you are interested in adding our Winter Goat Milk Soap to your January soap dish, you should order it soon! We are very close to selling out and won’t have it back in stock until the first week in December 2016.

    Castile Goat Milk Soap

Our Castile Goat Milk Soap serves different uses at different times of year. Castile serves as an excellent shave soap, which is less of a concern this time of year, however the Castile also has a very moisturizing lather. During the Winter, when our wood stove (or in most of our reader’s cases, central heat) is running full blast, our skin dries out. We use our Castile soap to keep our skin soft and hydrated during the dry Winter months.

  • Bryce’s Favorite Soap

For the longest time Bryce used our Castile Goat Milk Soap because she had incredibly sensitive skin. If her clothes or sheets were not washed in a free and clear detergent she would break out in a horrible rash. She was able to use our Castile without any issues, so for her first year and a half of life that is what she used. We started testing small areas of her skin at around eighteen months and she never had a reaction to our soaps, even though she was still reacting to things like laundry detergent. She was able to use our full line of soaps without a problem, so we started to allow her to pick out her own soaps from the reject drawer (the drawer of soaps that have flaws or didn’t make weight that we can’t sell). She loves smelling the soaps, so it is always a treat for her to pick out a new one. Her favorite soap to use is the Sunrise Citrus. She absolutely loves the scent!

The Freckled Farm Soap Company - Goat Milk Soap - Castile

The Castile is one of our most popular soaps and the soap that I find myself suggesting most often. In our household, and in many of the households of our customers, this soap is used for shaving. It’s sensitive enough for all of your shaving needs and has a thick silky lather. It has helped many of our customers who suffered from shaving rash after using other soaps and shaving creams.
